“He had a certain way about his shooting that drew my attention. Also, his coloring, his attention to detail, the post production process, I wanted to be a part of it."
It's All About Energy
After meeting Santino at a photography event in Holland, Michigan (Trend45), we grew our professional relationship through instagram communication and support for each others businesses. I kept seeing his work and would feel a deep connection with his subjects from his posts and artwork. He had a certain way about his shooting that drew my attention. Also, his coloring, his attention to detail, the post production process, I wanted to be a part of it all. We were finally able to connect the last week of June 2018. Babe and I drove 4 hours up north to meet him in Bay City, Michigan all the way from Portage, Michigan.
The trip was worth it! Driving through the hardest down pour I've ever seen, literally making visibility at a near 0! I had to stay behind a Mustang and try to find it's red taillights to avoid drifting across the highway into the side of the road. I felt like I had entered a Hurricane. Luckily we made it safely to our destination in Bay City.
"My favorite part was holding my baby close in the rain and squeezing him for dear life in this moment..."
Santino & I did not waste time. He hopped in the car and knew right where to go for our shoot. We explored forests and fields and drenched ourselves(luckily no gear was damaged) in warm rain and scratched our legs against the unforgiving grass of Michigan. As a model and subject sometimes you have to do the things you do not want to. You have to go through discomfort such as sticks in your feet, slippery rain, soggy underwear, & a range of discomforting temperatures. Luckily as a mom, I have accepted exhaustion as an everyday feeling so that was not a factor of distraction during the shooting process.
My favorite part was holding my baby close in the rain and squeezing him for dear life in this moment because if you learn anything today just know, babies become soap bars in the rain! His skin felt so smooth and soft and I could feel his heart beating through my skin into my own chest. He turned to look at the camera as we stood their in our most natural element, and snap*, a memory that I hope will outlive me and move through to my grandchildren and generations to come. I want my family lineage to know the ability to not fear adventure. The desire to go for the things you hunger. The want to keep growing and learning. And the acceptance of love for yourself, your family, and the Universe that surrounds us.
